Queens Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski, Council Member Melinda Katz’s Chief of Staff Veronica Morales, teachers and students from P.S. 62 cut the ribbon and shot some hoops to celebrate the recent renovations to Sobelsohn Playground in Forest Park.

“Summer is just around the corner and we’re gearing up for another great season at Parks,” said Commissioner Lewandowski. “Thanks to Council Member Katz’s generous allocation, Sobelsohn Playground is new and improved – just in time for the warm weather.”

Sobelsohn Playground received new and improved basketball and handball courts along with new play equipment. The playground’s chain link fence was replaced and the frames are painted with playful, colorful basketball figures.

New game tables and benches have been installed for local chess players and the comfort station now includes an accessible ramp into the basketball court. New swings, climbers and spinners have been added. Sobelsohn Playground also features more tree-shaded areas.
