Aymar Embury II, the man who designed many of the park's original features, was also chief or consulting architect on the construction of the Central Park Zoo, the Triborough Bridge, and Bryant Park, among many other projects.

Once the kings of pop themselves, The Chi-Lites enjoyed the spotlight with legendary hits “Have You Seen Her” and “Oh Girl.” Their seductive melodic voices and knack for lyrical romance are the reason why even today’s number one artists are reaching back to the source of soul. The Chi-Lites’ 1972 song “Are You My Woman?” is the main sample for the mega-hit “Crazy in Love” by Beyonce and Jay-Z.

The bandshell and adjacent plaza are closed. The recreation center and rest of the park remain open. We are reconstructing the historic bandshell and plaza to provide a more comforable and convenient place for concerts and other events.
