Alley Pond Adventure Course - Team Building Activities

The Alley Pond Park Adventure Course is a challenge or ropes course, featuring both low– and high–ropes course activities that promote teambuilding and problem–solving skills. The Adventure Course provides challenges and excitement for groups or individuals as they work through physically and intellectually demanding situations. A series of elements, or obstacles, challenge participants to come together and work as a team to develop and implement solutions. Each element emphasizes different group characteristics such as self–confidence, communication, cooperation, trust, and leadership. Although each element has its own perceived physical and mental challenge, anyone willing to participate can do so through the cooperative efforts of the group. As teams work through the elements of the Adventure Course, they learn about themselves and their relationships to others, and develop leadership and problem solving skills. A highly trained and certified course facilitator guides each group through the course, providing opportunities for participants to discuss and reflect on their experiences.
Elements of the Alley Pond Park Adventure Course include a "zip-line", a climbing and bouldering wall, a trust fall station, swings, nets, leaps and balance platforms. The Alley Pond Park Adventure Course is the first challenge course in New York City, the largest challenge course in the metropolitan region, and perhaps the most state-of-the-art challenge course in the United States.
The New York City Parks Department received a $250,000 NYS Environmental Protection Fund matching grant from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and a $120,000 grant from the J.E. and Z.B. Butler Foundation to build and operate the Alley Pond Park Adventure Course.
The Alley Pond Park Adventure Course was built by Project Adventure, one of the leading ropes course builders and operators in the country. The Course is a permanent addition to the facilities of Alley Pond Park, and will serve to expand the Alley Pond Park Adventure Center and Adventure Program offerings. Current offerings include The Alley Pond Park Adventure Day and Camping Program and Family Camping.
