Dear Mayor Giuliani, Image of the letter A

s we enter the new millennium, New Yorkers are enjoying our city more than ever. In the midst of prosperity, new construction, and a renewed sense of community, people feel a strong sense of pride and accomplishment.

Visitors from around the world flock to New York City, and I am proud to say that our green spaces are among its great attractions. Over the past two years, the City’s more than 28,000 acres of parkland have grown cleaner and greener than ever. We offer more free programming, involve more citizens in caring for our green spaces, and welcome more people to concerts, theater, and sporting events than any other park system.

Through your leadership and support, we have seen hundreds of capital projects come to fruition, including the historic renovation of City Hall Park. As you read of our other accomplishments and plans for the future, I know you will be as excited as I am about what is happening at Parks. We thank you for the continued support that has made these years at Parks so rewarding for the public we serve.

All the best,

Henry J. Stern
