  • Commissioner Stern speaks at the January Employee of the Month breakfast today at 9:00 AM in the Arsenal conference room. The Arsenal is located at 64th Street and 5th Avenue inside Manhattan's Central Park. Read about the Parks Employee Awards program in the 'About' section of www.nyc.gov/parks.
  • Commissioner Stern speaks at a Groundhog Day celebration at the Queens Zoo on Saturday, February 2 at 11:00 AM. The zoo is located inside Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Flushing, Queens.
  • Commissioner Stern speaks at the Gridiron Classic 5K and Football Throw Competition at 9:30 AM on Sunday, February 3. The race, sponsored by the New York Road Runners Club, will start and end at 99th Street and the East Drive in Manhattan's Central Park. The football throw contest takes place at 9:00 AM in Central Park's East Meadow.
  • Commissioner Stern speaks at the Polar Bear Swim at Orchard Beach in the Bronx on Sunday, February 3 at 1:00 PM. The event will take place in Section 9 of the beach.
  • Commissioner Stern bids a fond farewell to fellow Parkies and outlines his plans for the future in today's Daily Plant. The new Parks Commissioner, Adrian Benepe, begins his term on Monday, February 4. The Daily Plant can be found online at www.nyc.gov/parks.
  • Bids were received from contractors on Thursday, January 31 for the project to reconstruct boilers and heating systems at three sites in Manhattan. The bids are opened and reviewed by Management Services at the Olmsted Center, located inside Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens.
  • Forest Park Shops tradesmen have tack-welded the manhole covers at Louis Pasteur Park in Queens to prevent their removal. This has been a problem in the past for the park, located at 51st Avenue and 248th Street.
  • A Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP) sergeant at Riverside Park in Manhattan reported that an emotionally disturbed man attempted to jump into the Hudson River. He was transported to St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Riverside Park is bordered by Riverside Drive, West 72nd Street, Clair Place, and the Hudson River.
