  • The Tree Trust holds a preconstruction meeting with Urban Arborists who will be running the Tree Rescue Contract. The Tree Rescue program saves street trees by removing tree grates that have wedged into the trunk over time, widening pits that have become too small for a tree's root system, removing old Christmas lighting that is either strangling a tree or burning it, and eliminating blockage that constricts tree growth.
  • The Tree Trust surveys the Washington Heights, Manhattan area for potential stewards for Greenstreets and street trees.
  • District 8 in the Bronx inspects Ewen Park for graffiti at the basketball courts in preparation for a Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP) stakeout. Ewen Park has had problems with graffiti, and District 8 hopes that the PEP presence will deter future graffiti. Ewen Park is located at West 232nd Street and Johnson and Riverdale Avenues in the Bronx.
  • Queens receives an electric-powered Ford Ranger from the New York Power Authority. It will be used as a utility maintenance vehicle in District 8 in Queens. The communities included in that district are Fresh Meadows, Cunningham Heights, Hilltop Village, Pomonok Houses, Jamaica Estates, Holliswood, Flushing South, Utopia, Kew Gardens Hills, and Briarwood.
  • With the onset of winter weather, Queens reviews the status of the safety equipment at its lakes and ponds. Baisley Pond Park receives special attention because of an incident that occurred last year. Ten signs related to safety around the pond are also added to replace ones that have been vandalized. Baisley Pond Park is bounded by North Conduit Avenue, Baisley Boulevard South, and Lake View Boulevard East.
  • The Cromwell Recreation Center dance room floor is being refinished by a Parks Career Training (PACT) crew, while the Management and Operations (M&O) Storehouse packs all items in preparation for a move to a new location at the rear of the center. Cromwell is located at Pier 6 and Murray Hulbert Avenue in Staten Island.
  • The Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP) and the NYPD are actively searching for feral dogs at Silver Lake Park and adjacent properties in Staten Island. Silver Lake Park is bordered by Victory Boulevard, Clove Road, and Forest Avenue.
