- The Arsenal Library hosts a lecture entitled 'Historic Preservation at Parks: New Technologies and Conservation Practices' given by the Director of Historic Houses at 5:30 PM today. Commissioner Stern will also speak. The Arsenal Library is in room 209 of the Arsenal, which is located at 64th Street and 5th Avenue inside Manhattan's Central Park.
- Parks' Geographic Information System (GIS) Manager joins representatives from the NYC Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and Plangraphics, Inc. for a lecture on 'Uncharted Territory: Mapping the World Trade Center Rescue and Recovery Operation' at 6:00 PM in the Arsenal Gallery. The role maps played in the search and recovery effort following the September 11th World Trade Center attacks will be discussed. This lecture coincides with an exhibit currently on view in the Arsenal Gallery. The gallery is on the third floor of the Arsenal, located at 64th Street and Fifth Avenue. More info>>
- There is a Brooklyn Construction Meeting at 10 AM today at the Olmsted Center. The Directors of In-house and CPM Brooklyn Construction, the Brooklyn Capital Liaison and other agency personnel meet to discuss all Parks projects currently in construction in Brooklyn. The group focuses on progress made at each site since the last construction meeting, any construction delays and the explanations for such delays, and upcoming final inspections. The Olmsted Center is located inside Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Flushing, Queens.
- A blacksmith secures access to a newly acquired Greenbelt building at the former Seaview Hospital grounds with a new boom gate this week on Staten Island.
- The Urban Park Rangers (UPR), the Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP), the NYPD and the Center for Animal Care and Control (CACC) continue to search for feral dogs in the Silver Lake Park vicinity. The park is bordered by Victory Boulevard, Clove Road, and Forest Avenue on Staten Island.
- The Supervisor of Parks Maintenance & Operations (SPMO) for Owl's Head Park in Brooklyn reported bias graffiti in the basketball court to Communications on January 15th. The graffiti was photographed and removed. Owl's Head Park is located at 68th Street, Shore Parkway, Shore Road, and Colonial Road in Brooklyn.
