- Bid documents are available today for contractor pick-up for the installation of a fire detection system at the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum in Manhattan. Bids are due from contractors on Tuesday, February 19. The farmhouse is located at 4881 Broadway at 204th Street in Dyckman House Park. Bid documents may be picked up from the Olmsted Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens.
- A multi-agency clean-up of the area between Brookville Park Extension and Brookville Boulevard, the road going through Idlewild Park, took place on Tuesday, January 22. The Department of Sanitation (DOS) supplied a packer, a sweeper, a front-end loader and a container/dump called a Queen Mary because of its size. Parks supplied the personnel from Districts 11 and 13 in Queens, as well as a mini-packer. Idlewild Park is bounded by Rockaway Boulevard, Springfield Boulevard, and 149th Avenue in Queens.
- The Parks Academy conducted a Conflict of Interest training session on Tuesday, January 22 at the Olmsted Center. The purpose of the training is to familiarize employees with potential conflicts in the workplace and suggest proper procedures for dealing with them. The Olmsted Center is located in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Flushing, Queens.
- In today's Daily Plant: read about the lecture Parks' Geographic Information Systems (GIS) specialist gave on Wednesday, January 16 about setting up the city's Emergency Mapping and Data Center in the weeks following September 11. Then visit the Arsenal Gallery to see the Mapmaker, Make Me A Map exhibit, on view until Monday, January 28. Aerial photography from the World Trade Center rescue and recovery operation is included in the collection. The Arsenal Gallery is on the third floor of the Arsenal, located at 64th Street and 5th Avenue inside Manhattan's Central Park. The gallery is free and open to the public from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
- The Parks Library sponsors a free screening of A Walk Through Central Park on Thursday, January 24 at 5:30 PM. This two-hour documentary chronicles Central Park from its historic beginnings to its present state. The Central Park Photographer/Historian will introduce the film. The Parks Library can be found in Room 240 of the Arsenal, located at 64th Street and 5th Avenue inside Manhattan's Central Park.
- The new Winter Fun page on the Parks website is featured on the homepage of www.nyc.gov, the official New York City website. Links to the Winter Festival 2002 page and ice skating rink locations are also provided. The Parks site, www.nyc.gov/parks, is designed and maintained by the e-Government department.
