- Commissioner Stern participates in an Art Commission review from 9:00 to 11:00 AM today at the Olmsted Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens.
- The Work Experience Program (WEP) hosts its thirteenth semi-annual WEP of the Month appreciation luncheon on Wednesday, January 30 at 11:30 a.m. in the Arsenal Gallery. The luncheon will honor the WEP of the Month winners from July to December 2001. The Arsenal Gallery is on the third floor of the Arsenal, located at 64th Street and 5th Avenue inside Manhattan's Central Park.
- Parks' tradition of free swim instruction continues with the winter/spring session of Learn to Swim. Seven Parks & Recreation public indoor pools will teach children age 6 to 14 the basics of swimming on weekday afternoons. Learn to Swim is sponsored by D'Agostino Supermarkets, Inc. and the Manhattan Island Foundation. - Building upon the success of the Learn to Swim program, Parks announces the fourth year of the Parks Swim Teams. Open to boys and girls 6 to 18 years of age, the teams practice alongside the regular Learn to Swim sessions and are coached by Parks Aquatics Specialists. The swim teams will also be trained for competition, both amongst themselves and in preparation for the Borough Cup Championship in the spring. - The Bronx Work Experience Program (WEP) office received five sets of World Book encyclopedias today, with an additional 31 sets to follow. An assistant coordinator of Bronx WEP secured this donation from the NBC Today Show, which was also very supportive of the recent WEP Gift Drive. A set will be given to every recreation center in the city.
- Queens received a shipment of ballfield clay on Monday, January 29, to be spread on fields throughout the borough once warmer weather arrives.
- Operations and Management Planning (OMP) and Specifications and Estimating will meet on Wednesday, January 30 with a representative from IDEO Design Consulting to discuss the possible development of rubber animal art for Parks playgrounds.
