- Bids are due from contractors at 10:30 AM today for the project to reconstruct a portion of Joyce Kilmer Park in the Bronx. Bids will be opened and reviewed by Management Services at the Olmsted Center inside Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens. Joyce Kilmer Park is bordered by East 161st to East 164th Street, Walton Avenue, and the Grand Concourse.
- Operations received a new Barber Surf Rake on Tuesday, January 29. Surf rakes, pulled by beach tractor units, are used to clean debris and garbage off Parks' 12 miles of beach. A barber rake costs $49,876. Parks has ten active surf rakes, half of which have been received in the past two years.
- The Greenstreets office surveys the entrance to East River Park and is currently landscaping the area. East River Park stretches from Montgomery Street to East 12th Street along the FDR Drive.
- Central Forestry and the Tree Trust meet today with Beth Abraham Hospital in the Bronx, off of Allerton Avenue, to discuss the development of a horticulture therapy program. Patients in rehabilitation would be taught plant propagation as a form of therapy. The plants they grow would then be used in street tree pits and to adorn the entrance to Bronx Park. The park, located across the street from the hospital, is bordered by Southern Boulevard, 180th Street, Bronx Park East, and Webster and Burke Avenues.
- In preparation for the baseball season, Queens moves two storage units in Captain Mario Fajardo Park from the ballfield area to behind the backstop. The units were relocated to improve the view of the playing field. The ballfield area, part of Kissena Corridor Park, is located at 150th St, Booth Memorial Avenue, Kissena Boulevard, and 56th Avenue.
