  • Commissioner Stern speaks at a Greenstreet ribbon cutting celebration at 52nd Street and Avenue T in Brooklyn at 12 PM today.

  • Today at 10 am, Chief of Design, the Design directors, the Assistant Chief of Management Services, an Assistant to the Chief of Design, and an Assistant to the First Deputy Commissioner meet to discuss the status of all projects currently in the design phase. The group will focus on the percent complete of the drawings for each project, recent developments for each project, and Design's progress towards the agency goal of transmitting $125,000,000 worth of projects by December 31, 2001.

  • The design has been completed for the project to reconstruct a portion of the salt marsh at Saw Mill Creek Marsh Park in Staten Island. A bid date is pending legal review of the contract.

  • Central Forestry holds Asian Longhorned Beetle management meeting. The management team is composed of the USDA, State Agriculture and Markets, and Parks. more info

  • The Tree Trust meets with Greenstreet stewards in upper Manhattan. This is a regular meeting to keep the volunteers connected to their Greenstreets. more info

  • Central Recreation applies for funding from the Mellon Foundation to support free citywide recreation programs for New York City's Youth. These programs include Learn to Swim, Millennium Basketball Tournament, Environmental Education Days, United State Youth Games, and Enhanced After-School sites.

  • The First Deputy Commissioner's office submitted Hazardous Substance Bulk Storage Applications to the New York State DEC for Lasker Pool, Asser Levy Pool, Jackie Robinson Pool and Thomas Jefferson Pool. The permits allow Parks to store chlorine tanks at our indoor and outdoor pools.

  • All districts in Staten Island apply wood chips to shrub beds this week. Wood chips add aesthetic quality to the beds while protecting the shrub roots during the winter.
