  • Commissioner Stern celebrates the Kingsford Triangle Greenstreet ribbon cutting at 11 AM today. The site is located at Hillside Avenue, Wexford Terrace, and Kingston Place in Queens. More info>>
  • Parks acquired 37.687 acres in the month of November. Parks now consists of 1,721 properties which occupy 28,576 acres, about 13 percent of the City of New York.
  • The Bronx River Ecology Team meets at Ranaqua, the Bronx Borough Headquarters, to vote for proposals that are to receive funding from a $414,300 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) grant. The Ecology Team advises field staff on ecological techniques that restore the health and the habitat of the Bronx River watershed.
  • Bids were received from contractors yesterday (12/4) for the project to Reconstruct the Mall on Queens Blvd between 84th and 87th Avenue in Queens. The bids will be reviewed.

  • The Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP) in Queens issued a summons to a citizen for destruction of a city tree. The tree was cut down on 145 Avenue in Queens, leaving a 3-inch stump.
  • The Queens Borough Commissioner and Vollmer Associates Architecture Firm inspect possible parking sites under the Whitestone and Van Wyck Expressway interchanges. The sites to be used during the construction of the new Shea Stadium. The Borough Commissioner identified more than 3,000 parking places outside of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park that could be used for the duration of the construction as well as overflow parking for the U.S. Open Tennis matches. The use of these external sites would eliminate the need to use any grassland for parking during this project.
  • Parks hosts Holiday Tree Lighting on Randall's Island at 3:30 PM and at Tompkinsville Park at 4:30 PM in Staten Island. Tompkinsville Park is located at Bay Street and Victory Boulevard.
  • Teens at Parks (TAP) officially expanded the number of instructional classes to 16 in each borough. The classes are designed to introduce teens to dance, theatre and visual art. more info>>
