  • Today in the Olmsted Design Conference Room, Design, Specifications and Estimating, and OMP staff meet with representatives from Upside Development and Cosmo Consultants. The consultants will present new synthetic surfaces for artificial field projects.

  • This week Parks received five new Toyota Prius sedans. These hybrid gas/electric vehicles produce minimal emissions, and are among the most fuel-efficient vehicles currently produced. With these five clean air additions to the fleet, Parks now has received 26 of its total order of 30 Priuses.
  • The Parklands office and the Trust for Public Land view a potential waterfront park at Bushwick Inlet on Kent Avenue in Brooklyn.
  • Bronx Operations finish a five-day initiative to remove leaves along Pelham Parkway between White Plains and Westchester Avenues. Pelham Parkway, stretching between Bronx Park and Pelham Bay Park, is a Bronx Greenway site. More info>>
  • On December 6, Queens began an extensive program to open up overgrown areas in various parts of Kissena Park. Weeds were removed and low growth on trees was elevated to clear sight lines. This project is driven by the requests of local residents to promote safe open spaces that aren't occluded by uncontrolled undergrowth. These areas are covered with wood chips to prevent the weeds from growing back.
  • Master Gardener training was held on Tuesday December 4 and Thursday December 6 at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.
  • The Computer Resource Center (CRC) is proud to announce improvements to the lab at Hansborough Recreation Center. Four Imacs have been replaced with PCs and a server has been installed. The "new" lab boasts 8 Pentium II PCs, a high speed DSL Internet connection and a Local Area Network (LAN). Hansborough is located at 35 West 134 Street in Manhattan. More info on the CRC>>
  • Parks Opportunities Program (POP) training will take place at Faber Pool in Staten Island with the Staten Island Supervisors of Parks Maintenance & Operations (SPMO).
  • First Deputy Commissioner's office attends a Mayor's Rodent Control Task Force meeting at 100 Gold Street. Chaired by the Office of Emergency Management, the task force takes a multi-agency approach to abate city property.
