  • Commissioner Stern addresses Parks employees at the Master Gardener Trainee Program Graduation at 9:30 AM today. The ceremony takes place at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG), where Parks staff received training over the past nine months. The BBG is located at 1000 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn.

  • Commissioner Stern speaks at the Gowanus Greenstreet groundbreaking at 11 AM today. The ceremony will be held on Douglas Street between Bond Street and the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn. Council Member Angel Rodriguez funded this $272,000 project. More info on Greenstreets.>>

  • At 12 PM today, Fort Hamilton Senior Center holds a graduation celebration for its Computer Resource Center (CRC) students. Seniors will be honored for mastering basic computer concepts such as using the mouse, turning on and off the computer and opening and closing programs.   • Staten Island performs a 5 x 5 at Long Pond Park. 5 x 5 is an initiative which combines multiple operations groups into one team for one day to perform maintenance operations on a specific park or park property.   • Bids were received from contractors on December 12 for the project to reconstruct a Portion of the Athletic Fields in Rainey Park in the Bronx. The Park is located on Dawson and Beck Streets and Intervale and Longwood Avenues.
  • On December 12, Manhattan Maintenance & Operations and Manhattan Construction met to review the status of all projects currently in in-house and under Consultant Project Management (CPM) construction. The group focused on the progress made on each project since the last meeting, upcoming Order to Work (OTW) dates, final inspections, and punch-list completions.
  • Manhattan hosts 4 tree lighting ceremonies tonight:
    6:00 PM on the Broadway Mall at West 144th Street.
    6:30 PM at Johnny Hartman Park, located at Amsterdam Avenue, West 143rd Street, and Hamilton Place.
    6:30 PM in Central Park at 110th and 5th Avenue
    6:30 PM at St. Nicholas Park on St. Nicholas Avenue between West 128th and West 141st St.
