  • At 11:30 AM today, Commissioner Stern, Consul General of Sweden Olle Wästerberg, Eric Kandel, the 2000 Nobel Prize winner for his work in neuroscience, Bronx High School of Science Principal Valerie Reidy, and other Nobel laureates break ground for the Alfred Nobel Monument at Theodore Roosevelt Park on79th Street and Columbus Avenue in Manhattan. This is the first monument to honor the American winners of the prestigious prize. More info>>
  • Commissioner Stern and Deputy Commissioner Moss attend the Staten Island Manager's Meeting. The borough will review all current issues and present the accomplishments from the past eight years.
  • The Greenstreets office monitors one of its last plantings, which is located at Seaview Avenue and 96th Street in Brooklyn. More info>>
  • The Greenstreets office meets with the vice president of Beth Abraham Hospital in the Bronx to discuss them purchasing plants from the citywide nursery landscaping needs. More info>>
  • The Work Experience Program (WEP) hosts a Toy Drive pick-up at St. Mary's Recreation Center in the Bronx. St. Mary's is located at 145th Street and St. Ann's Avenue. More info>>
  • Bronx and Brooklyn Construction Status Meetings are held jointly in Queens today at the design headquarters. The respective Borough Capital Liaison and Construction Directors discuss the status of all jobs currently being constructed by both in-house and CPM (consultant project management) construction. The groups' focus is on project schedules, play equipment deliveries, overruns and change orders, and final inspections.
  • Bid documents are available for contractor pick-up for the Construction of the Northeast Corner of Community Rock Garden Park in the Bronx. Bids are due from contractors on January 7, 2002.
  • The Derek Dilworth Tennis Courts are dedicated at Brookville Park. The Queens Borough Commissioner presides over the ceremony where 75 people are expected attended. The event was enhanced by the presence of 8 linesman's chairs and 1 umpire's chair from the U.S.T.A. The courts are located at 147th Avenue off Brookville Boulevard. More info>>
