  • Commissioner Stern dedicates the 2,001st historic sign at 12:30 PM today at the Merchant's Gate in Central Park near the Maine Monument. Merchant's Gate is located at Central Park West and 59th Street in Manhattan, at the southwest corner of the park. More info>>
  • The Bronx Garage maintains normal operations. The Garage empties their packers, or garbage trucks, at the sewage containers in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx.
  • Queens Greenhouse and personnel from Districts 9 & 16 make safety-enhancing alterations to timber form play equipment at Ampere and Dry Harbor Playgrounds in Queens. This is part of an ongoing project to make parks safer. Ampere Playground is located at 101st Avenue between 82nd and 83rd Streets. Dry Harbor Playground is located at 80th Street and Myrtle Avenue, Forest Parkway.

  • Parks begins contacting all New York City high school swim teams regarding the availability of summer lifeguard positions. Parks is currently offering conditioning classes and qualifying tests for interested candidates at the West 59th Street Pool in Manhattan and Metropolitan Pool in Brooklyn. West 59th Street Pool is located at 533 W. 59th Street and 10th Avenue, and Metropolitan Pool is located at 261 Bedford Avenue at Metropolitan Avenue.   • An Urban Park Ranger reports that a healthy deer was found in Van Cortlandt Park today near Van Cortlandt House. The Ranger contacted the police, who chased the deer back into the wooded area of the park and its home environment. The Van Cortlandt House is located inside Van Cortlandt Park at Broadway and 246th Street.
