  • Commissioner Stern joins community members and city officials to cut the ribbon at three Greenstreets along Queens Plaza between Crescent Avenue and 29th Street at 10:00 a.m. today. These sites were built for the purpose of "greening up" the entrance to the new Metropolitan Life offices and rejuvenating the area. Metropolitan Life has adopted these Greenstreets and will maintain them. More info>>
  • Commissioner Stern also joins community members and city officials to cut the ribbon for the playground portion of the new Brooklyn Bridge Park at 1:00 p.m. today. The ceremony will be held at the intersection of Main and Plymouth Streets in the DUMBO, or Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, neighborhood of Brooklyn. The playground, which is the new park's first completed section, is fashioned as the hull of a 50-foot ship. More info>>
  • Bid documents are available for contractor pick-up for Reconstruction of Ten Heroes Plaza Traffic Triangle, located at Van Doren Street, 108th Street and Westside Avenue in Queens. Bids are due from contractors on January 16. More info>>
  • Bronx shops inventory their electrical supplies as part of an ongoing effort to maintain storehouse efficiency. The Bronx Storehouse is located in Ranaqua, the Bronx headquarters of Parks, at 1 Bronx River Parkway.
  • Parks continues to contact all New York City high school swim teams regarding the availability of summer lifeguard positions. Parks is currently offering conditioning classes and qualifying tests for interested candidates at the West 59th Street Pool in Manhattan and Metropolitan Pool in Brooklyn. West 59th Street Pool is located at 533 W. 59th Street and 10th Avenue, and Metropolitan Pool is located at 261 Bedford Avenue at Metropolitan Avenue.   • The three-day Holiday Open House at the Queens County Farm Museum begins at 12:00 p.m. today. Highlights of this free event include tours of the holiday-decorated farmhouse, craft activities for children, and mulled cider. The Queens County Farm Museum is located at 73-50 Little Neck Parkway in Floral Park, Queens. More info>>
  • The New York Police Department (NYPD) reports that two people were arrested for stealing cobblestones from the Bronx River Parkway. The Parks manager for the district will attempt to recover the cobblestones from the police precinct.
