  • Commissioner Stern rings in the new year with thousands of runners and revelers at the ASICS/Runner's World 23rd Midnight Run through Central Park beginning at 11:00 p.m. tonight. The celebration, which is presented by the New York Road Runners Club, includes a costume parade, fireworks, champagne, musical entertainment and the four-mile run. More info>>
  • Commissioner Stern speaks at the last Employee of the Month Breakfast for 2001 at 9:00 a.m. today in the Arsenal Conference Room. The conference room is located on the third floor of the Arsenal at 64th Street and 5th Avenue in Manhattan. More info>>
  • Bids are due from contractors at 10:30am on January 3, 2002 for the project to Reconstruct the Comfort Station in Mount Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Bids will be opened and reviewed at the Olmsted Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Flushing, Queens.
  • Bid documents are available for contractor pick-up beginning January 3, 2002 for the project to reconstruct selected mini-pools throughout the city. The bid documents are located in room 64 at the Olmsted Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Flushing, Queens. Bids are due from contractors on January 23.
  • Celebrate New Year's Eve in Old Flatbush at the Lefferts Homestead in Brooklyn today. Starting at 1:00 p.m., you can enjoy warm cider and Dutch treats and make your own noisemaker as 2001 comes to a close. Lefferts Homestead is located on Flatbush Avenue at Empire Boulevard in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.
  • Begin the new year at 3:00 p.m. on January 1st with the Merchant's House Museum's annual New Year's Day Open House, when they celebrate the 19th century New York custom of "calling" on New Year's Day. Toast 2002 with champagne punch, holiday cakes and confections, and take part in guided house tours and walking tours of the neighborhood throughout the afternoon Merchant's House Museum is located at 29 East Fourth Street between Lafayette Street and Bowery.   • Parks continues to offer conditioning classes and qualifying tests for those interested in summer lifeguard positions with Parks at the West 59th Street Pool in Manhattan and Metropolitan Pool in Brooklyn. West 59th Street Pool is located at 533 W. 59th Street and 10th Avenue, and Metropolitan Pool is located at 261 Bedford Avenue at Metropolitan Avenue.
