E-Government launches the John Muir Virtual Nature Trail. The tour is the first of a new generation on interactive virtual park explorations that feature 360-degree panoramic images and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping technology. Central Recreation meets with Dr. Charles and Dorothy Jeter to discuss curriculum development for the Enhanced After-School programs at St. James and Jackie Robinson recreation centers. Parks' 17 Enhanced After-School sites offer literacy, dance, music, and art classes that are taught by specialized and highly qualified instructors. >>More<<

Queens creates a new packer and garbage pickup plan. They are reorganizing garbage pickup procedures and reallocating manpower and equipment to more efficiently serve the borough.

The First Deputy Commissioner's Office continues to provide the New York City Department of Health with a list of parks that were larvicided the past year as part of the city's West Nile Virus abatement plan. Licensed exterminators treated all catch basins on parkland with at least three applications of Vectolex.

Operations Management & Planning performs a recreation center inspection in Brooklyn. Center inspections are a key part of the Recreation Scorecard program, which began in 1999 as an attempt to extend Parks Inspection Program (PIP) style accountability to the recreation centers. Teams of 2 or more OMP analysts conduct at least 1 inspection per week. Each center is inspected twice a year.

The Bronx Garage transports compost from the Bronx Zoo to the soccer field in Macombs Dam Park, aiding in the continued effort to improve the soil structure of the soccer field. The soccer field in Macombs Dam Park is located at East 161st Street and Jerome Avenue.
