- Commissioner Stern speaks at the Sara Roosevelt
Park athletic field groundbreaking ceremony
at 11 AM today. The field is located at Broome
and Forsythe Streets in Manhattan. More

- Bronx Operations concludes the two-day blitz
to clean Ranaqua,
the Bronx Parks headquarters. This clean up
focuses on the removal of any accumulation
of broken machinery, antiquated items in storage
and the fallen leaves surrounding Ranaqua.
The three-story brick building, with its adjacent
garages, yards, and shops, was built by the
Federal Works Progress Administration (WPA)
and opened by Robert Moses in 1937.
- An analyst from Operations Management &
Planning visits the Bronx Shops to review
procedures and to discuss the next phase of
the shop initiative. The shop initiative,
launched in July 2001, is an effort to improve
the performance of the six skilled trade shops
in Parks.
- Bids were received from contractors on Thursday
(11/29) for the project to reconstruct the
Forest Park Sobelsohn Playground in Queens.
The bids will be reviewed.
- Borough Commissioner of Queens inspects
a possible temporary-parking site to be used
during the new Shea
Stadium construction. This area is east
of 126th Street at Northern Blvd to the Flushing
River, under the Van Wyck Interchange, and
can hold approximately 1500-2000 possible
parking spaces. Converting the site would
effectively remove one of the largest dumping
sites in Queens.
- The Department of Agriculture conducts a
compliance workshop to brief members of Central
Forestry on developments in the Asian Longhorned
Beetle situation. The agenda includes insect
identification and quarantine standards and
procedures.

- On Wednesday, November 28, The New York
City Art Commission reviewed and approved
the planned conservation of the Admiral
David Glasgow Farragut monument in Madison
Square Park and the American Boy sculpture
in Pelham Bay Park.
- On Monday December 2, Staten Island dedicates
the Great Kills World War II memorial located
on Nelson Avenue and Amboy Road.
