Forestry & Horticulture
Our foresters, gardeners, naturalists, climbers and pruners are responsible for bringing the greatest gift to the City of New York gorgeous natural spaces, healthy trees, hearty shrubs, and brilliant flowers. Security
Without a sense of safety, New Yorkers cannot fully enjoy our spectacular parks and green spaces. The Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP) is dedicated to ensuring that all of our parks, facilities, and special events are safe. Our officers are responsible for enforcing rules and regulations, assisting with inspections of our concessionaires, and maintaining order at events throughout the boroughs, such as the NYC Marathon and the NYC Triathlon. Most importantly, they provide a uniformed presence and serve as ambassadors to the park. In this highly visible role, PEP officers protect and secure our shared spaces so that all New Yorkers have a place to safely relax and enjoy. Recreation, Public Programming, & Special Events
DPR does not merely maintain and preserve public lands — we help New Yorkers bring them to life. DPR uses its wealth of facilities to provide the public with a smörgåsbord of activities, programs, and events. We operate 29 recreation centers that provide New Yorkers low-cost (free for youth) swimming pools, basketball courts, weight rooms, and fitness classes. We manage more than 800 athletic fields, 550 tennis courts, 52 public pools, and innovative after-school programs for New York’s children. DPR also provides programming to link New Yorkers to the natural world. Our Urban Park Rangers teach people to care for the environment, preserve the natural habitats of local wildlife, and restore New York City’s natural heritage. In addition to our recreation and public programming opportunities, DPR offers an action-packed calendar of special events, ranging from the NYC Marathon to Coney Island’s nationally televised beach volleyball tournament, the AVP Brooklyn Open. We are seeking creative and dynamic individuals to develop, coordinate, and execute these activities and programs. Administration
The Administration of DPR is responsible for providing leadership, vision, and direction for the agency. Our Administration coordinates more than 3,800 full-time employees, oversees a budget of over $367 million, and manages the largest transitional employment program in the country, the Parks Opportunity Program. As Parks enters the most exciting time in its history, we are preparing to meet the aggressive goals set forth in Mayor Bloomberg's PlaNYC initiative. To do so, we need innovative managers capable of creating effective change. We also need intelligent analysts and efficient administrative coordinators to contribute their unique skills to our team.
