St. Mary’s Park led the way in the development of recreation programs in the Bronx. The borough’s first playground opened in St. Mary’s Park in 1914. St. Mary’s Recreation Center, completed in 1951, is one of the largest in New York City. Because of its extensive facilities including, a boxing room and an indoor pool, St. Mary’s offers a wide variety of inventive programming for the community. From athletics and fitness, to art and technology, the programs at St. Mary’s cover a full range of activities for adults and children.
